Oh Grace! Oh Grace!

That time a hurricane tried to make things difficult…

In August of 2021, we had the pleasure of flying out to Zihuatanejo, to work with Laura and Nick on their wedding, August 21st. Our plans were set for us to travel the day before the wedding, so we would be there with just enough time to relax, refresh and be ready to film. But then hurricane Grace decided to drop in and have some fun with us and our travel plans!

Knowing that Grace was on the way and expected to make landfall, we went to Cancún a day earlier than planned, changing our Cancún to Mexico City tickets to the next available flight out, at 6am the next morning, just beating the arrival of Grace in Cancún. We’d have to change the next set of tickets (to Ixtapa) once we arrived in Mexico City. When our morning Cancún flight arrived in Mexico City, the airport was packed with people! Hurricane Grace was wreaking havoc with everyone’s travel plans. It took some patience and several hours of waiting around, but we were eventually able to change our flight from Mexico City to Ixtapa, for later that same day. Success!

Once we arrived in Ixtapa, we were met by a private driver and taken to Zihuatanejo to meet up with the happy couple, Laura and Nick. After such a hectic day, it was nice to finally be able to relax and we enjoyed the drive, watching the beauty of Zihuatanejo from the car. It’s quite different from Cozumel, it has the same beautiful tropical palms, but also rich farmland and mountains.

Arriving earlier than planned, we had to take a night at a villa, then the day before the wedding, we switched to another one, which had been originally booked. Aside from that, things seemed to be falling into place and going smoothly.

The morning of the 21st arrived and it was the perfect day for a wedding. Guests were visiting, hanging out in the pool and having fun, and we started filming the wedding preparations. We were able to get some beautiful, sentimental still photos, video and drone shots done, but wouldn’t you know it? Hurricane Grace had created a storm system that followed us! It had pushed it’s way right across the country and as the evening ceremony approached, the rain started. The wind whipped around and the rain came pouring down, but that wasn’t going to stop this couple. With us hiding under umbrellas, and guests getting wet from the rain, the ceremony continued.

Here in México, rain during a wedding is considered a blessing and this beautiful couple happily accepted Grace's blessing with joy. And what a surprise, the rain stopped after the ceremony, just in time to celebrate! Thank you Grace, and thank you Laura and Nick for letting us be a part of your beautiful day.

A must see video!!

And of course a few images from the wedding:
